The Beatles had already set a trend by writing their own material, but both their previous albums were beefed up with the inclusion of covers. That all changed with A Hard Day’s Night, which was composed solely of original songs. The Beatles became the second pop musicians to record a whole album of original material, after Bob Dylan.
